Frequently asked questions
Is MBE Certification still available in Ohio?
Yes. Ohio businesses apply and recertify through the NMSDC Hub, and OMSDC continues to support certified MBEs with buyer connections, programs and events.
Do all owners need to be U.S. citizens?
The minority owners who make up the qualifying 51% must be U.S. citizens. Check the Hub for how other owners are treated.
How long does certification take?
Complete applications are typically decided in under 45 days. Missing documents or a required site visit can add time.
Does certification guarantee contracts?
No. Certification makes your business visible to buyers looking for qualified MBEs. Programs like Corporate Contract Ready and MatchDesk can help you prepare for and meet those buyers.
Is SBE Certification a replacement for MBE Certification?
No. SBE Certification is a separate pathway for qualifying small businesses, planned for 2027. It complements MBE Certification. Join the SBE waitlist.
